Wine information
The "Rothenpfad" parcel is part of the current Marienburg site. The soil here is very light and based on very soft, weathered red clay slate. The particularly steep site has no access roads, so the use of machinery is ruled out. For the vines, this means that there is no compaction caused by heavy equipment, i.e. ideal conditions for healthy root growth. Clemens Busch only uses grapes from the oldest, at least 70-year-old vines from traditional single-pole cultivation for the Grosse Gewächs. Spontaneous fermentation in old fuder barrels, long yeast storage.
Color
Bright golden yellow with delicate green reflections.
Nose
Stony notes, dried ginger, liquorice, privet and nettle at the start, with sufficient oxygen the fruity notes of red apple, vineyard peach and ripe pear are added, an animating, complex and juicy wine announces itself.
Palate
The 2022 Marienburg Riesling Grosses Gewächs "Rothenpfad" shows immense freshness on the palate, with lime, kumquats and a fine tart grapefruit note. Its acidity is present and at the same time fantastically framed, the long finish seduces with bite, fine tannins and a salty note. A real long-distance runner with enormous ageing potential, a real revelation, especially after a few years of ageing.
