- The 2018 Chenin Blanc comes from a vineyard that Anne-Claude Leflaive also planted - according to the recommendations of the soil scientists Claude and Lydia Bourguignon, who are also involved in the domaine. In any case, it does not conceal the vintage with its notes of fully ripe pears and oranges, grapefruits and a compote of apples, pears and quinces, rounded off by a little acacia blossom honey, a hint of beeswax, lanolin and lightly toasted nuts.

Wine information

The 2018 Chenin Blanc comes from a vineyard which Anne-Claude Leflaive also planted - according to the recommendations of the soil scientists Claude and Lydia Bourguignon, who are also involved in the Domaine. The Chenin stands in loamy silty soil on sandstone as well as in red flint on tuffeau .

The yield is 28 hl/ha. The grapes were harvested by hand in 12-kilo crates. After the slow pressing of the whole clusters, the juice was spontaneously aged for a long time in five year old Burgundian Pièces fermented and aged for over twelve months.

Nose

The 2018s chenin blanc From Clau de Nell opens with a fragrance as if it came from the south of France or was perhaps a Chenin from South Africa. In any case, it does not conceal the vintage with its notes of fully ripe pears and oranges, grapefruits and a compote of apples, pears and quinces, rounded off by a little acacia blossom honey, a touch of beeswax, lanolin and lightly toasted nuts.

Palate

On the palate, the rich yellow fruit combines with a thoroughly distinctive acidity, and you're back in the Loire, there's no doubt about that. But this is not the elegance of Vouvray or the pressure of Saumur, but the warmth, almost fat and ripeness of Anjou, but countered by the equally typical acidity. The 2018s chenin blanc melts on the palate like a jus with lots of butter. The texture is silky, slightly salty and intense, and builds to that typical fine bitterness on the finish that this varietal likes to carry. The wine is very young and has a lot of potential, but please decant it.
