Wine Description for Chablis Orangerie AOC 2022 from Château de Béru
- Colour & Appearance
- Delicate golden yellow in the glass, clear and luminous – a classic Chablis profile with youthful freshness.
- Nose
- Here the magic of this vineyard site reveals itself: the Orangerie exudes year after year an unmistakable aroma of oranges and a hint of vanilla – a fascinating phenomenon that one might attribute to the clay-rich soil or simply to the enchantment of the place. The 2022 adds limequats, mandarins and grapefruits to the aromatic play, joined by star fruit, delicate pear cream and a whisper of Greek mountain tea. An aromatic complexity that is second to none.
- Palate
- Ripe juiciness meets an impressive acidity that gives this Chablis all its energy, without losing its sensual maturity. This balance creates a wonderful tension: fresh, clear and precise on one side, charming and inviting on the other. More substantial stone and kernel fruits than on the nose, along with the citrus notes again and above all plenty of salinity on the finish. A Chablis with character, finesse and personality.
- Finish
- Long, salt-driven and with lingering freshness. The mineral character of the Kimmeridgian limestone subsoil comes fully into its own here.
- Terroir & Origin
- The Orangerie vineyard site is sheltered from wind and south-facing, neighbouring Clos Béru, surrounded by fig, apple and ancient pear trees. The clay soil on Kimmeridgian limestone gives the wine its distinctive microclimate and unmistakable character – a true jewel in the Béru portfolio.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Chardonnay, aged in tanks and large wooden barrels, matured on fine lees. Unfiltered and unrefined bottling, with only minimal sulphur addition – a natural approach that preserves the authenticity of the terroir.
- Food Pairing Recommendations
- Excellent with grilled sea bass, scallops, goat’s cheese or poultry in citrus cream sauce. Also a fascinating pairing with Asian dishes featuring lemongrass.
- Special Features
- A Chablis that stands distinctly apart from its siblings – the pronounced orange note is its hallmark and makes it one of the most characterful wines in the Château de Béru range.
