Information
The fruit of this Brunello di Montalcino comes from the 1.2 hectare Vigna della Piaggione, located from 420 to 450 metres above sea level and characterised by skeleton-rich limestone soils. The berries were fermented spontaneously at up to 28 °C and then gently pressed. The wine was aged for three years in barrels of ten, 20 and 40 hl. It was then bottled unfiltered and stored in the bottle for another twelve months.
Color
Bright ruby red with light garnet
Nose
Salicutti's Piaggione from the 2017 vintage makes a strong entrance right from the start! It offers a concise blend of juicy red and black cherries, dark raspberries and some wild strawberries, cinnamon, earth and charcoal with top notes of mint, sage and rose petals. The Brunello di Montalcino already seems quite open-minded, but benefits immensely from air.
Palate
On the palate the Piaggione similarly open and inviting, juicy in its ripe but crisp fruit, combining cherries and raspberries with a little star anise, cinnamon, Szechuan pepper and grilled herbs. The Brunello appears silky and polished in the tightly meshed tannin and is infused with a piquant lively acidity. Everything appears firm and grippy, juicy and downright classic with a sensual touch of sweet extract and a fine creaminess. Well done in a challenging vintage!
