Wine Description for Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2020 from Le Chiuse

Character
Le Chiuse belongs to the authentic artisanal producers of Montalcino, interpreting Brunello in its classical, unadorned form. The 2020 vintage benefits from a balanced growing season that prioritises elegance over power. This Brunello embodies the traditional school: structured, complex and built for longevity, without succumbing to the modern temptations of excessive extraction.
Terroir & Origin
Montalcino, situated south of Siena, ranks among Italy’s most prestigious wine regions. The vineyards of Le Chiuse benefit from their exceptional location at around 300 metres elevation with calcareous Galestro soils, which impart minerality and structure to the Sangiovese Grosso. The Mediterranean microclimate with warm days and cool nights enables slow, physiologically complete ripening – a prerequisite for the required complexity of a DOCG Brunello.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Brunello di Montalcino must consist of 100% Sangiovese Grosso, the local clone of this Tuscan noble grape. Vinification follows strict DOCG regulations: a minimum of two years‘ ageing in wooden casks and further months in bottle before release. Le Chiuse relies on traditional large wooden casks (Botti), which give the wine structure without masking the fruit. The result is wines with pronounced tannins, vibrant acidity and multi-layered aromatic profile – typical of authentic Brunello.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This Brunello calls for Tuscan cuisine in its substantial form: Bistecca alla Fiorentina, wild boar ragù or aged Pecorino Toscano. It also shows its strengths with braised beef, lamb roast with rosemary or mushroom dishes with truffle. The wine’s structure harmonises perfectly with slow cooking and intense flavours.
