Wine information

The Clos de Béru vineyard is the monopoly site of the house. The Clos de Béru is only not classified as Premier Cru in Chablis because it was leased at the time of Comte Eric de Béru's untimely death and the family showed no interest in classification. Historically, Clos de Béru has always been seen at the level of good Premier Cru sites. Standing in the vineyard, it is immediately clear why: pure south exposed, not very steep, but definitely sloping and very stony typical Kimmeridge soil. The boundaries were drawn by the monks along the terroir at that time. That's why the Clos doesn't have an even shape, but that of a sloping trapezoid.

Nose

Nor is the 2015 Clos Béru Monopole quiet and still: no wonder; because the wine needs time and is still young. But the longer you swirl it in the glass, the more interesting the taste development becomes. It starts with notes of lemons and fresh lemon zest. They then get a little warmer and are reminiscent of grapefruit and orange zest. Then quince comes into play and a crumbly yellow apple, followed by nectarines and peaches, almonds, oyster shells and limestone. But all this is never bulky, but remains fine and finesse-rich.

Palate

Juicy, very juicy is the Clos Béru Monopolies already at the first sip. On the one hand, it is precise, taut and salty with a lot of bite and further equipped with a profound ripe acidity, on the other hand, it is creamy, smooth and full of white and yellow fruit. This results in a successful ying and yang in this flagship of the winery, which gets longer and longer, deeper and stonier on the finish. It is already a great Clos Béru Monopolies with a lot of potential. Currently, he certainly has the need for a carafe and for large glasses.
