Info
The Cabernet Sauvignon stands at an altitude of 369 metres in the Isteiner Kirchberg vineyard. These vines grow on Jurassic limestone deposits between the Rhine Graben and the southern Black Forest.
This warm region offers this international grape variety a home in which it can thrive. The conditions are described as almost Mediterranean. The wine is matured in French oak barrels, 30% of which are new wood.
Color
Bright, rich purple with violet reflections
Nose
A clear, clean nose presents a wine from the Isteiner Klotz that initially seems much more like Cabernet Franc than Cabernet Sauvignon. Cooked peppers in all their facets. Green, red, warm, cold, grilled, steamed. A hint of Mediterranean herbs surrounds the fruit in the form of thyme and rosemary. Beetroot provides an earthy sweetness. It has a bloody and dark flavour. A mixture of sweet cherry, sour cherry, blackberry and plum form the fruity base alongside the dominant blackcurrant.
Palate
It reflects all this in a very elegant way on the palate. It packs a punch on the palate. Compact, juicy and full-bodied. The dark, rich fruit meets its earthy fruit sweetness. Tart, bitter accents are used perfectly. Well dosed and not disturbing. Its tart, vegetal side is enormously animating. There is a hint of pyrazine in the room, but this suits it wonderfully. This gives the fruit a contrasting kick of freshness. The fruit is enormously tart and racy on the finish.
