Wine information
The vines of this Pinot Gris grow on the winery's steep slopes on partly bare Jurassic limestone, often with a humus layer only a few centimetres thick. The grapes are very small and the yields are correspondingly very low, which ensures concentration, complexity and a pronounced minerality.
Information on the expansion
The 2020 had brief skin contact, then matured for approx. 1 year in 350 litre used barriques, followed by approx. 6 months in stainless steel, then bottled unfiltered with minimal sulphur added.
Color
Brilliant golden yellow with delicate green reflections.
Nose
On the nose, the 2021 Steiner Pinot Gris is characterised by brilliant fruit of orange, orange zest, mango, lime and banana peel. This is underpinned by iodised notes, the scent of soy sauce, i.e. pure umami, oyster shell and sea surf. The whole is complemented by forest floor, tree bark, porcini mushrooms, some milk chocolate and roasted hazelnuts.
Palate
It grabs hold on the tongue, the saliva flows immediately and turns it into a mouth-watering drop that encourages you to take another sip. A Pinot Gris with finesse and playfulness and an extremely skilful use of wood. A top location and great winemaking skills make for a savoury and finesse-rich wine at an incredibly low price. I am thrilled - and this wine disappears incredibly quickly, preferably in combination with aromatic cuisine.
Decant if possible and serve not too cold in a large Burgundy glass.
