Wine Description for Vermut Tintorro by Wachisnais
- Colour & Appearance
- Sparkling cherry red with bright, slightly brownish reflections – a hint of the oxidative maturity that characterises a fine vermouth.
- Nose
- The nose is complex and multi-layered: blackberry, raspberry and blackcurrant open the play, flanked by juicy sweet cherry. Vanilla and cinnamon add spicy notes, whilst plum paste and stewed dark fruits bring a warm, baked depth. Milk chocolate and cocoa butter lend the whole a velvety weight. With air, delicate smoke notes of bacon and campfire emerge, accompanied by light tobacco leaves, liquorice and herbal tones of fennel and artichoke. The crowning finale is After Eight and salmiak pastilles – an ethereal freshness that elegantly counterbalances the richness.
- Palate
- On the palate, the Tintorro surprises with a slender, racy elegance. A lively, fine-grained acidity draws the wine into length and keeps it taut. Dark herbal spice – sage, rosemary, thyme – dominates the mid-palate, whilst barberry, cranberry and goji berry provide a vibrant, almost urban freshness. Despite the high alcohol of 15.5%, it comes across as remarkably dry, with only a subtle sweetness flashing across the mid-tongue.
- Finish
- Long and ethereal: liquorice, mint, eucalyptus and a final hint of After Eight chocolate linger on. A finish that invites contemplation.
- Terroir & Origin
- Hails from the Ribera del Duero, one of Spain’s most demanding red wine regions on the Castilian plateau. The continental climate with extreme temperature fluctuations and sparse soils shapes both the intense fruit and the distinctive acidity structure of this unusual vermouth.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- A distinctive cuvée of Tempranillo and the autochthonous white variety Albillo. The combination of both varieties gives the vermouth its characteristic tension between dark fruit depth and bright, aromatic herbal spice. At 15.5% vol., a powerful yet remarkably elegant product.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Classically as an aperitif on ice with an orange slice, but also an ideal companion to Jamón Ibérico, aged Manchego, olive tapas or grilled artichokes. The herbal spice makes it the perfect partner for game pâtés and savoury charcuterie.
- Special Features
- The Vermut Tintorro by Wachisnais is a rare example of a craft vermouth from the Ribera del Duero – far removed from industrial mass-produced vermouths. If you love conventions, this is not for you. If you bring a spirit of discovery, you will be rewarded.
