Color
The wine shows itself in a slightly translucent garnet red with a purple core clear and shiny in the glass.
Nose
Forest and berries.
The wine shines, packed with vitality and youthful drive, with aromas of raspberry and wild strawberry as well as pickled cherries and sea buckthorn. Unlike many representatives from Valpolicella, its fruit is very clear, fresh and precise. It does not seem jammy at all and has absolutely nothing to do with the postmodern winemaking that has crept into many wineries in the region in the 21st century. A discreetly mossy character and the spice of beetroot, black pepper and a hint of cinnamon stick give it depth and warmth.
Palate
On the palate, the 2017 Casal Vegri Valpolicella Classico Superiore from Ca' La Bionda presents itself with charismatic balance.
Momentarily, filling space, it is made clear that this is about craft.
No more, but also no less.
The red berry fruit remains fresh and succinct, but does not offer itself. Soft, harmonious, yet grippy tannins give the wine a defined body that is livened up by a stimulating acid arc that generates the drinking flow. An impeccable, approved wine that surprises with its finesse and lightness rather than overwhelmingness, given its origins.
Price pleasure hit!
