Wine Description for Abrí Las Alas – I Opened My Wings 2019 by Valdemonjas

Colour & Appearance
Deep, saturated black-red with luminous violet reflections – a visual promise of concentration and youthfulness.
Nose
An enchanting aromatic spectrum unfolds: coconut flakes and vanilla meet black pepper, whilst spiced plums, cloves and cinnamon dust emanate wintry warmth. The fruit palette ranges from sweet cherries through blackberries to cassis and elderflower. Floral notes of violets and lilac hover above, whilst sage, rosemary, mint and eucalyptus bring Mediterranean freshness. The aroma of pine forests and fir needles completes the picture. The roasted notes from 19 months in French oak are perfectly balanced – never dominant, always integrated.
Palate
Here this Tempranillo reaches peak form: silky, sublime, majestic. The texture is fleshy, almost bloody, with fine-grained tannins that caress the palate. Cool minerality and brilliantly integrated acidity engage in an elegant interplay that lends the wine tension and structure. The chalky purity and juicy freshness recall biting into a handful of fresh berries. Light bitter notes and ethereal wood-derived nuances encourage the drinking experience without ever dominating.
Finish
Long, mineral-driven, with persistent fruit and fine tannin grip. The cool elegance remains present through to the end.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Tempranillo (locally called Tinta Fina) from Ribera del Duero. 19 months maturation in small French oak barrels. Luca d’Attomas flagship cuvée, strictly limited to just 1,100 bottles.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Flank steak with green beans and Jerusalem artichokes, braised lamb loin with oriental jus and sweet potatoes or surprisingly also with celeriac baked in salt dough with basil pesto and roasted tomatoes.
Special Characteristics
A wine that proves Tempranillo can be the foundation for truly great red wines. The combination of chalky purity, cool elegance, perfect minerality and fine tannins creates a symbiosis that is unparalleled. Brilliant winemaking from Ribera del Duero.
