Wine Description for TBA Zieregg Grand Reserve Trockenbeerenauslese 2013 375ml by Tement

Colour & Appearance
Luminous amber tones with a fascinating pale green rim – a visual hint at the extraordinary concentration and freshness of this dessert wine.
Nose
The bouquet presents itself with lavish opulence: dried Armenian apricots, dried pears and white peach preserve dominate. Beneath unfolds a spicy complexity of light tobacco, milk chocolate, dark cocoa nibs, honey and linseed oil. The clarity is razor-sharp – here the precision of Zieregg terroir reveals itself.
Palate
Surprisingly fluid for a TBA: The wine flows with medium viscosity silkily across the tongue, never appearing heavy-handed. The opulent fruit is threaded through with pronounced mineral notes, which like salt in caramel create electrifying tension. This balance between sweetness and minerality is simply brilliant.
Finish
Long, precise and with lingering freshness – the minerality carries well beyond the finale.
Terroir & Origin
The Zieregg in South Styria ranks among Austria’s most legendary vineyard sites. The steep south-facing slopes with their Opok soils (weathered marl) lend the Sauvignon Blanc that crystalline minerality which also shines through in this rare dessert wine.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Sauvignon Blanc from raisined berries without Botrytis – a deliberate choice for crystalline character rather than honeyed complexity. Ageing in large wooden cask preserves fruit precision and adds subtle texture.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Greek yoghurt with caramelised walnuts and honey, grilled tuna belly with melted Roscoff onions or surprisingly spicy glazed pork belly with habanero chillies – the minerality also pairs well with piquant heat.
Special Characteristics
The Grand Reserve selection represents the pinnacle of Tement’s dessert wine pyramid. A wine with impressive ageing potential, already drinking beautifully now, yet capable of cellaring comfortably for decades to come.
