Information around wine
The grapes of the Vorgrimmlers come from the Tuniberg, a Jurassic limestone fault plate that folded up there during the formation of the Upper Rhine Graben. On top of the Jurassic limestone lies a layer of loess of varying thickness. The grapes are harvested by hand, partially destemmed and slowly fermented. The wine matures for about 20 months in used barriques. Only at bottling time do the Vorgrimmlers add minimal amounts of sulphur to the wine, bringing it to between 30 and 40 mg of total sulphur. It is bottled without any additives and fining with only very coarse filtration.

Nose
Vorgrimmler's Pinot Noir 2018 is an intense wine from the start, in which the notes of ripe dark raspberries mix with those of a little wood. With air, the wine becomes fuller, more complex and cooler at the same time. It smells of sour cherries and black cherries, damp earth, ivy and undergrowth, but also of a little sweet yeast dough and warm sandalwood notes.
Palate
On the palate, this wonderful blend of ripe, inviting, almost supple fruit and a cool strand running through this fruit is even more evident. Here, the lively acidity plays an additional role. And so does the distinctive tannin, which gives this wine a firm structure and at the same time seems fine. In the finish, it becomes slightly salty and the fruit brings along a charming sweet core. It is simply inspiring what the Vorgrimmlers have to offer in their estate wine category.
