Wine information
Mallorca is a refuge for many autochthonous grape varieties that only exist on the Balearic island. Perhaps the most interesting among them is Callet The grape tolerates the Mediterranean heat and dryness and yet produces lean and fresh red wines with moderate alcohol content and sensual aromas. All this is impressively true of the biodynamic Sotil 2021 from winemaker Barbara Mesquida Mora. The single-varietal growth comes from 56 to 61-year-old bush vines and is aged in 500-litre French oak barrels.
Color
Transparent cherry red
Nose
Sotil 2021 has an expressive and elegant nose with intense floral aromas and a sweet cherry fruit. The bouquet shows great purity and delicacy.
Palate
On the palate, this red wine is light to medium-bodied, with a silky texture, soft tannins and flavours of cherries, some pepper and green peppers. At first, it may seem a little slippery in the mouth, but it develops a wonderful grip, complexity and length with increasing air contact. Overall, the Sotil 2021 stands for sleek elegance. It is a fine and fresh red wine that shows the Mediterranean from its sensual side. Undoubtedly one of the best "callets" of Mallorca.
