Wine information
The Bret brothers cultivate a plot of just two hectares in Climat »La Bonnode« in Saint-Véran. It is located at an altitude of 250 metres and faces east. Located below the Roche de Vergisson, it is characterised by clay on limestone. The vines are 35 years old. The grapes were harvested by hand on 22 and 23 September 2021. This was followed by whole bunch pressing and then spontaneous fermentation. The Chardonnay was then aged for 17 months, first in a concrete egg and then in neutral cuves after the blend. The wine was only lightly sulphured before bottling. The total sulphur is 29 mg/l. The wine has a pH value of 3.21.
Color
medium straw yellow
Nose
The 2021 La Bonnode Ovoïde is the third variant of the La Bonnode site this year. The Chardonnay from the concrete egg once again impressively shows that it makes sense and is definitely fun to taste the three wines next to each other. On the nose, it seems a bit greener, with a bit more lime than lemon and also green apple next to the yellow aspect with kitchen herbs and pure citrus. There is also a chalky component.
Palate
On the palate the Ovoïde clear as a bell, precise and balanced. The concrete egg has given the wine a different texture that may remind you of a Japanese water grindstone. The Chardonnay presents itself light yellow with green aspects, a lot of citrus fruit, but also some stone fruit. The acidity builds up more and more pressure towards the finale, where it meets the mouthwatering saltiness so typical of the Brets' wines..
