The Fritsch winery is located in Oberstocktal, around 60 kilometres west of Vienna in the Wagram wine-growing region. The Wagram was only granted the status of a separate wine-growing region in 2007, making it the youngest wine-growing region. Loess and other soft sediments dominate the terrain, which is over forty metres high. Loess, also known as the yellow powder, offers the grapes excellent conditions, as it can store heat and water equally well and therefore has a balancing effect on sun and rain. Karl Fritsch cultivates the typical varieties of the region here and has also made a name for himself as a red wine pioneer on the Wagram. The winery has belonged to the exclusive circle of traditional Austrian wineries since 2008.
