Info about the wine
The red slate Riesling comes predominantly from the "Rothenpfad" parcel. The soil here is very light and consists mainly of very soft, weathered red clay slate. However, some of the grapes also come from the Nonnengarten site, which lies to the west below the Marienburg. Here the soil is also red, but is more marbled and clearly heavier. The wines from this area are always a little more earthy and crisp. These two types complement each other perfectly and have therefore formed the basis for the Riesling from the red slate since the 2003 vintage.
Color
Brilliant golden yellow with delicate green reflections.
Nose
On the nose, the 2021 Riesling "vom roten Schiefer" reveals a multifaceted aromatic interplay after sufficient aeration. Notes of vineyard peach, apricots, red apple as well as hints of baked apple, cinnamon, a touch of undergrowth and herbs such as rosemary and thyme emerge. With further maturity, these aromas will intensify, but already at this stage it convinces with depth and intensity.
Palate
On the tongue, we are presented with a charming, juicy and expressive Riesling, whose lively acidity is perfectly coated with juicy fruitiness, spicy components and plenty of minerality. With all its fullness and expression, its alcohol is a slender 11 Vol%, which makes it the perfect companion for dishes that contain earthy and fruity components at the same time. Very good ageing potential!
