Info about the wine
The grapes for this wine grow, as the name suggests, on the grey slate in the steep slopes of Pünderich, predominantly in somewhat higher-lying plots. The grapes are usually harvested in mid-October at around 85-90° Oechsle. Fermented spontaneously in old Fuder barrels.
Color
Bright, radiant golden yellow with silvery reflections.
Nose
The 2021 Riesling "vom grauen Schiefer" is still a little restrained due to its youth, so put it in the carafe. After sufficient aeration, an extremely finely chiselled drop opens up to us, which beguiles with citrus, apple, clear slate spice and delicate smoky hints. The mineral terroir character is perfectly elaborated and we are inclined to taste this beguilingly fresh Riesling directly.
Palate
On the palate, it delights us with wonderful density and juicy fruit, here apricots and vineyard peach join in, lively acidity and striking minerality. A wine as clear as a mountain spring. With a salty structure and the low alcohol of 11 Vol%, the drinking flow is fantastically stimulated and you want to empty the bottle immediately. A joy solo and in combination with herb-influenced cuisine.
