About the wine:
A majestic neighbour of the famous Marienburg, the Nonnengarten is enthroned on the Moselle River. Demarcated by a symmetrical hedge line that extends downwards from the mountain to the Moselle, the Nonnengarten already begins on the left side of the lowest section. The land represents the old cadastre, once known as "Am Birnbaum", a site considered one of the best in the oldest classifications. The loamy red soil of the Nunnery Garden offers a contrast to the Marienburg. After the land consolidation in 1988, the vines were replanted and now have almost 35 years under their belt.
Aesthetics of wine:
Sparks of silver break through the radiant light gold of the 2018 Riesling Nonnengarten Grosse Lage "Birnbaum" Reserve Fass 60 to create a hypnotically attractive drink.
Bouquet:
Like a shy beauty, the wine opens its true essence only after a few days of exposure to the air. The bouquet of orange, apple and mango, interwoven with a touch of yeasty creaminess and a spicy minerality, then unfolds in full glory. It may seem young and reserved, but with enough aeration it begins to reveal its true self.
Palette:
The wine is equally enchanting on the tongue, where it seduces with a juicy fullness, fine acidity and invigorating spiciness. The wine flows down irresistibly, leaving a long, captivating aftertaste and is a perfect match for dishes with fruity and spicy notes. An intoxicating event.
Ventilation:
The more contact this wine has with oxygen, the more it unfolds its magic. It should be stored in the refrigerator for a few days or decanted sufficiently before serving.
Culinary recommendations:
Why not try a spinach and goat's cheese tart served with a hint of black pepper, or perhaps a bowl of sweet potatoes garnished with chopped walnuts and toasted sesame oil. Alternatively, a hearty sausage served on a bed of apple puree and garnished with fresh herbs.
