A look at the wine
Zind-Humbrecht has its roots in the Grand Cru Sommerberg, which sits majestically above the village of Niedermorschwihr, on slopes so steep that only climbers could do them justice. The terroir allows the biotite-granite soil to lean miraculously towards the southern rays of the sun. Its highlight is certainly the 0.32 ha vineyard called Dudenstein, which was planted at high density in 2013 with our Riesling bulk selection. To master this steep slope, an impressive stone wall was restored in the middle, a necessary measure to limit erosion and ease the hard work of the winemakers. The biotite-rich granite interacts intriguingly with the micro-organism activity of the soil, resulting in a clay-rich terroir full of possibilities.

A look at the refinement
In contrast to the Brand, whose rock often breaks the surface, the soil of the Sommerberg seems to reveal deeper layers. 2020 marked another highlight for the winery when the first Riesling completed a dry fermentation.

The palette of colours
Wrapped in a dense robe of intense golden yellow.

Intoxicating fragrances
The 2020 Riesling Grand Cru Sommerberg opens wide to discovery, its exotic undertones unmistakable. The scent of vineyard peaches meets orange peel, followed by mango cream, acacia aromas, honey, candied ginger, and limes dipped in salt. And then, the lovely note of elderflower. Its lively minerality holds these flavours, but also brings a certain lightness and elegance to the game.

A taste experience
In the mouth, an exotic play of colours unfolds, presenting juicy fruit, a sweetness that is pierced by a crisp and delicate acidity, giving this wine a lively nature. A true firework of flavours, fruits and impressions, it remains exciting which unfoldings the next years will bring. For those who cannot wait any longer: It is advisable to decant the wine for a few hours and enjoy it in a generous glass. Opening it for several days will intensify its expressiveness even more.

Our culinary recommendations
Try it with a yellow Thai curry with mango and coriander. An Asian chicken stew with spicy coconut milk and Thai basil also shows it off beautifully. Or let it be the accompaniment to grilled prawns with glazed vanilla tomatoes and basmati rice.
