Color:
Golden yellow, bright and clear.
Nose:
On the nose, the 2012 Herrenweg de Turckheim Riesling is initially very tidy. With more air, notes of dried apricots, Cox Orange apples, pink grapefruit zest, and herbs like dill and fennel greens emerge. This is joined by slightly floral notes, some nutmeg and lime blossom.
Mouth:
On the palate, the Herrenweg has a brilliant clarity. The juicy fruit has plenty of peach, but also spicy components of licorice and fennel. A dramatic minerality gives the wine salt, pressure and a grippy, cool mouthfeel. The bright acidic arc is elegantly woven for a long, fresh finish with a salty-fruity aftertaste.
Food recommendations by Sebastian Bordthäuser:
- Semolina dumplings with basil in tomato stock with English celery
(fruit vegetables (nightshade), spicy vegetables, dumplings, meatballs )
- Lotte in white tomato consomme with spring vegetables
(Fish, Soups & Consommées, Fruit Vegetables (Nightshade), Monkfish, Mixed Vegetables)
- Rabbit with mirabelles, nutmeg and sage
(game, rabbit, spicy vegetables, stone fruit)
