Color:
Light straw yellow with green reflections.
Nose:
The 2013 Calcaires Riesling from Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is drawn as a clear aromatic picture. The Riesling fruit loiters distinctively in the glass, without fussing about fruit aromas: juicy-looking, with clear concentration and cool stringency. Who says Alsace is boring...?
Mouth:
On the nose, the Calcaires is contoured by the taut acidity typical of 2013. It gives it stringency and drinking flow. The extract is dense, but it seems almost porous on the palate thanks to its mineral component: chalky-kargly with a grippy texture, it is an example of the impeccable, contemporary Alsatian standard.
Food recommendations by Sebastian Bordthäuser:
- Mussels from the white wine broth
(Seafood, Oysters & Mussels)
- Ceviche with bell pepper, celery and coriander
(Fish, root vegetables)
- Grilled ribs with garlic and oregano
(Meat, seasoned vegetables)
