Wine Description for Le Grand Blanc de Revelette IGP 2021 by Revelette
- Colour & Appearance
- Medium straw yellow with vibrant reflections – a wine that already promises elegance and substance in the glass.
- Nose
- The nose is seductively complex whilst displaying remarkable freshness: orange blossom and almond blossom open the play, followed by ripe green and yellow pears. With aeration, a southern fullness unfolds – yellow melon, grapefruit and fine lemon zest come into play. Despite its Provençal origins, the 2021 retains a pleasant slenderness that pleasantly sets it apart from heavier vintages.
- Palate
- On the palate, Le Grand Blanc reveals its noblest side: pear cream, liquorice, a hint of saffron and cinnamon interweave with a fine wood and herbal spice to create a harmonious, elegant whole. The Sauvignon Blanc brings a ripe green note and white berries into play, creating lively contrasts. The acidity is southern and ripe, yet precise and refined – not a gram too much, not a gram too little.
- Finish
- Long, spicy and carried by fine minerality. The fruit lingers persistently – a finale that invites the next sip.
- Terroir & Origin
- The grapes come from 30 hectares of vineyards across 17 parcels around Jouques, situated in the shelter of the legendary Montagne Sainte-Victoire, approximately 30 kilometres north of Aix-en-Provence. The altitude and continental climate in the north-east of Provence lend the wine a freshness and tension that is by no means taken for granted in this region.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- A multi-layered cuvée: 65% Chardonnay, 17% Roussanne, 9% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% Ugni Blanc and 4% Rolle. Spontaneous fermentation took place in three ways: 30% in stainless steel at 18°C, 40% in one to four-year-old barriques with ten months on lees and regular bâtonnage – without added sulphur – and the remaining 30% in 25-hl barrels. Total sulphur stands at a moderate 54 mg/l, residual sugar below one gram. Craftsmanship at the highest level.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- A versatile companion: magnificent with bouillabaisse with saffron, which mirrors the wine’s spicy notes. Equally convincing with veal loin with lardo, thyme and mushroom-lemon cream. For a vegetarian treat, basmati with almonds, pistachios, cardamom and candied orange peel is recommended – an aromatic echo of the wine’s floral and spice notes.
- Special Features
- Le Grand Blanc from Peter Fischer’s Château Revelette is one of Provence’s most convincing white wines – a wine that proves southern France has far more to offer than pink summer pleasures. Vintage after vintage, proof of the quiet greatness of this underrated appellation.
