Information about the situation
The heart of this exceptional vineyard is a unique Clos in Alsace, whose cultivation area extends over 1 ha, close to the renowned Grand Cru Hengst. The unique selling point of this Clos is the Pinot Noir grape variety, 100 % of which is grown here. This site is divided into three particular segments. The highest section consists mainly of pink Vosges sandstone, red sandstone and calcareous sandstone. The middle section is characterised by fine-grained grey shell limestone and Jurassic yellow rock. The lower part is home to a mixture of Vosges sandstone and white and pink quartz. The vines were planted from 1998 to 2002 and have a low yield of 35 hl/ha.

Processing
The grape production process tends more towards infusion than extraction. The spontaneous fermentation took place in tanks with 15 % whole clusters, followed by 17 months of ageing in barrique barrels. Malolactic reduction of the acidity took place in spring, without further fining.

Appearance
The wine presents itself in a strong violet red, enriched by purple reflections.

Aroma
The 2019 Pinot Noir Clos de la Faille reveals an enticing, fruity sweetness.aromas of wild herbs, leather, truffle, cedar and smoke are perceptible. The beguiling ethereal note and the floral fragrance make it an olfactory experience.

Taste
On the palate, the wine is juicy and fruity, a fine sweetish fruit note appears without overshadowing the dry character. The Clos de la Faille combines strength and spiciness with a breathtaking elegance and femininity. A salty minerality and a taut tannin structure indicate an exceptional ageing potential. Although it is already opening at this stage, it would be advisable to give it some more time to fully develop.
For an optimal taste experience, the wine should be slightly chilled and served from a decanter into Burgundy glasses.

For a harmonious taste experience, the wine could be paired with a warm salad of fennel and red peppers garnished with mozzarella, or a potato casserole with mushrooms, veal and rosemary. Another exquisite dish could be smoked duck breast with redcurrant jelly.
