Nose
On the nose, the 2005 Pinot Gris Clos Windsbuhl Vendanges Tardives conveys an intense sweetness. It smells of honey, caramelized almonds, dried dates and orange jam.
Palate
On the palate, the 2005 Pinot Gris Clos Windsbuhl Vendanges Tardives appears opulent and sweet. This fantastic sweet wine is endowed with an intense minerality; it is at the beginning of its evolution and still holds many years of ageing potential.Clos Windsbuhl is situated on a small, 16-acre ridge, facing south, south-east, with a particular microclimate enhanced by the lean limestone soil. In 2005, the grapes reached perfect ripeness and acid balance, and just before harvest, noble rot transformed them into small, rich, sweet berries. The nose already shows the full aromatic potential of the wine a combination of honey, apricot, wax and the classic Windsbuhl minerals. The palate is now still closed and refuses to show the enormous sweetness. The harmonious Vendage Tardive will evolve further in the near future, heading towards the great 2002 or 1994. A wine with extraordinary ageing potential.
