Wine profile:
Clos Jebsal is elegantly situated near the Grand Cru Brand, separated by an imposing geological shift that precisely separates granite from Brand and gypsum marl from Keuper. This intimate 1.3 hectare Clos, planted by winemaker Léonard himself in the late 1970s, proudly bears Pinot Gris. The vines, which thrive on very steep slopes facing south, ripen quickly. The marl soil in the lower part of the Clos and on the terraces is deep and cool, while the limestone is more prominent in the upper part.
Given an earlier harvest, a whole month ahead of the usual time, the thermal situation in September was suboptimal for the development of root rot. Since 2020, Clos Jebsal has changed its orientation, now producing very dry wines, but still retaining its power to produce wines that can age superbly.
Attributable attributes:
Colouring: Pure gold.
Nose: The 2021 Pinot Gris from Clos Jebsal seems to exude intense yeasty spice, apple, quince, walnut and dried apricot. It is a particularly stimulating and intriguing Pinot Gris that exudes a salty note, giving it elegance and freshness.
Taste: This Pinot Gris is characterised by lots of melting, juicy fruit, fine saltiness, invigorating acidity and tasty tannins. It surrounds food with a gentle touch and adds an invigorating freshness to rich dishes with its acidity and saltiness. This Pinot Gris gives us a sense of joy! The long finish speaks for its excellent ageing potential.
For those who cannot wait and want to open it in the present, we recommend decanting the wine about two hours before drinking and enjoying it not too cold from large Burgundy glasses.
Culinary associations:
Enjoy this bottle accompanied by canapés of soft duck liver with apricot jam and crunchy sesame seeds. It also goes wonderfully with lamb kebabs served with a pomelo yoghurt sauce. Or perhaps a goat's cheese tartlet with apple and green salad, finished off with toasted walnuts. Cheers!
