Color
Brilliant golden yellow in the glass.
Nose
The 2013 Jebsal Pinot Gris already ignites a firework on the nose cascades of ripe fruits such as pears, yellow apples, sun-ripened oranges and lychees mix with floral notes of acacia and lime blossom. One might suspect that the greatness of Pinot Gris proves itself in Alsace in general and in the Clos Jebsal paradelage in particular.
Mouth
On the palate, the wine is juicy and gripping and initially seems to want to score points over its opulent fruit. However, the mineral pressure that gives it its great tension and supports and contours the fruit becomes apparent in the finish. Subtle minerality as the backbone of a wine that should show first buds after 5-8 years of bottle maturity at the earliest, before it blossoms to true greatness.
Food recommendations from Sebastian Bordthäuser
- Aged white mould cheese like Brie de Meaux, warm on white bread with nuts and preserved apples.
- Trout fillets from hot smoke with creamy sauce of grapes, tarragon, early leek and bacon
- Baeckeoffe, Alsatian butcher's platter on sauerkraut from the oven
