Wine profile
The site, with an astonishing slope of about 40 percent, oriented south-southwest, and the colourful shimmer of the phyllite slate, is an exceptional loner in the Rheingau region. The vineyards extend to an altitude of 300 metres. The steep slope position makes optimal use of the spring and autumn sun and moderates the summer radiation heat, creating an individual growth curve for the vines.

Expansion information
The entire process, from the hand harvest to the gentle whole bunch pressing, is of high quality and meticulous, and likewise the natural fermentation takes place with the wine's own yeasts. A 16-month maturation on the full lees in large wooden barrels rounds off the wine.

Colour scheme
A bright golden yellow, sparkling in its markings.

Scent
The 2021 Hallgarten Hendelberg Erste Lage is inviting and fragrant with pronounced fruit notes of mirabelle, vineyard peach, lime, orange and exotic notes reminiscent of mango and passion fruit. There is also a distinctive herbal and floral aroma that evokes associations of lemon balm, elderflower and verbena, followed by a cool stony nuance and a hint of shellfish.

Taste
On the palate, one encounters a pure juiciness that meets a precise and extremely invigorating acidity. A Riesling full of energy and expression, whose intense minerality is fabulous and whose potential for maturation is far from exhausted. This wine is only at the beginning of its development and promises greatness. Those who want to taste this jewel already in its youthful phase will be well advised to decant it a few hours before enjoying it.

Food suggestions
The pairing possibilities for this exquisite bottle are wide-ranging. A juicy lemon thyme risotto, scallops in a crispy puff pastry coating or finely sliced red mullet fillets steamed in aluminium foil with a slice of lemon and pousse pierre seaweed harmonise perfectly with this wine.
