Info about the situation
While most of the vineyards along the Haardtrand, the transition from the Rhine plain to the Palatinate Forest, were formed as eastern slopes by the Rhine ditch running from south to north, there are also southern slopes in the Queich Valley leading from the Palatinate Forest into the Rhine Valley. This "Siebeldingen summer side" has the site designation "Im Sonnenschein". The vineyards lie 160 to 225 metres above sea level and have slopes of 5 to 20 %. The old names of the vineyards "Am Berg", "Auf'm Berg" and "Stockwingert" describe the vineyard parcels very well. Situated at the highest point of the site, these parcels are the most barren and stoniest of the site. This wine comes from plots with vines up to 40 years old, located at 185 and 225 metres above sea level on the south and south-west facing slopes.
Due to the subsidence and faulting of the Rhine Graben and the strong uplift of the Palatinate Forest, very old and deep-lying geological formations have come to light in the area around Siebeldingen. The soils in the "Im Sonnenschein" site are therefore very different. In the parcel of land belonging to the Rebholz vineyard, there is shell limestone soil that was formed during the Triassic period 220 million years ago. The limestones are marine sediments in which fossilised marine flora and fauna can be found again and again. Limestone soil is a prerequisite for all the world's great Burgundies / Pinots!
Info about the expansion
After selective manual harvesting, the grapes were destemmed and, after a 24-hour maceration period, gently juiced in a basket press. After 24 hours of sedimentation of the must sediment, fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks. After 5 months of ageing on the lees, the wine was racked in March 2023 and bottled in July 2023.
Color
Bright sparkling golden yellow with delicate green reflections.
Nose
The 2022 Weißer Burgunder im Sonnenschein GG is still youthful at the moment, but already flirts with lots of bright fruit reminiscent of pear, yellow apple and quince. Distinct floral hints of acacia and elderflower lend it a stimulating note; after a longer opening, aromas of minerality and the seductive scent of freshly baked brioche, light tobacco and wood smoke are added.
Palate
On the palate, it has a very charming attack with a fine melt and creamy structure. The refreshing acidity, which is very well embedded in the wine's creaminess and fine fruit sweetness, gives it a stimulating structure. Its acidity structure emphasises the excellent ageing potential of this exciting Pinot Blanc. Spicy notes on the finish whet the appetite to accompany fine cuisine and further ageing will allow it to gain even more.
If you want to enjoy it at this youthful stage, you should definitely open and decant it early.
