Info about the situation

While most of the vineyards along the Haardtrand, the transition from the Rhine plain to the Palatinate Forest, were formed as eastern slopes by the Rhine ditch running from south to north, there are also southern slopes in the Queich Valley leading from the Palatinate Forest into the Rhine Valley. The "Siebeldinger Sommerseite" has the site designation "Im Sonnenschein". The vineyards lie 160 to 225 metres above sea level and have slopes of 5 to 20 %. The parcel of the Rebholz vineyard, which was known as "Siebeldinger Ganshorn" for top Rieslings even before the wine law was changed in 1971, is a south-facing slope protected from cold air to the west of the "German Wine Route" below the Geilweilerhof. 2.5 hectares are classified as VDP.GROSSE LAGE, in which the winery cultivates 2.1 hectares.
Due to the subsidence and faulting of the Rhine Graben and the strong uplift of the Palatinate Forest, very old and deep-lying geological formations have come to light in the area around Siebeldingen. The soils in the "Im Sonnenschein" site are therefore very different. The soil of our "GANZ HORN" plot is geologically quite young. It was formed in the Pleistocene period around 1 million years ago. During and after the ice ages, huge quantities of gravel were transported from the Palatinate Forest and deposited on the slopes of the Queich Valley. This soil, a mixture of red sandstone from the Palatinate Forest, gravel and clay, is ideal for Riesling vines. Some of the pebbles are made of pure quartz crystal. These pebbles are processed into the biodynamic preparation 501 at the Rebholz winery.

Info about the expansion

After selective manual harvesting in several stages, the grapes were destemmed. The 24-hour maceration period was followed by gentle pressing and pre-clarification through natural sedimentation of the must sediment. The must was then fermented in stainless steel tanks. After 5 months of ageing on the lees, the wine was racked in March 2023 and bottled in June 2023.

Color

Bright and sparkling golden yellow.

Nose

The 2022 Riesling "Ganz Horn" in Sonnenschein GG is already very fragrant and animating in its youth. A sea of fruit reminiscent of orange, peach and lime is combined with compact spiciness, yeasty and smoky notes. With sufficient oxygen, notes of ginger, freshly picked lemon balm and sage are added. The whole is compactly framed by smoky and clearly mineral notes. The nose already gives the impression of coolness and impressive depth.

Palate

It is slender and incredibly stimulating on the tongue. The citrus fruits are joined by flavours such as peach and orange, but also young pineapple and a delicately tart grapefruit note. Despite its depth, juiciness and strength, it appears light-footed and almost dances across the palate. Its low alcohol content of just 12.5 vol% enhances this drinking flow beautifully. Even if it already seems open and accessible at the moment, it should be put in the cellar first, otherwise you will miss out on the experience of getting to know this wine in all its splendour as it matures.

A few days of opening enhance its beautiful elegance and complexity, so if you want to enjoy it at this youthful stage, be sure to open and decant early.
