Info

According to its name, this Pinot Blanc grows at an altitude of 350 metres. Three of the four soil types found in Odinstal form the basis for this wine: red sandstone, Keuper and basalt.

100% of the 2022 was fermented in steel tanks. 5% whole bunches were left on the must for 9 months. This gave it the necessary structure, especially in this somewhat fuller year. The low 11.18% alcohol by volume meets quite balanced levels of residual sugar and acidity.

Nose

Pinot Blanc 350 N.N. from the 2022 vintage smells loud, wild and intense from the curved Josephinenhütte glass. Dried herbs characterise this first moment. A little patience then reveals Nashi pear, some yellow apple and white peach. A hint of roasted almonds and chopped hazelnuts provide a tart, dark component. It is coated in a fine reduction. This gives it flavour and a wild character. Apple and almond blossom and plenty of jasmine are added as the flavour progresses.

Palate

Full-bodied and powerful on the palate. It doesn't need to have any melting flavour or the character traits of new wood. It has a warm, dense core. Its levels of 7g/l residual sugar and 6.8g/l acidity are very well balanced. The high acidity clearly takes away its fruity sweetness and density. On the other hand, the acidity is also very mild. It seems a little more well-behaved than previous vintages, but that's just nature. And so is Odinstal. Allowing precisely these characteristics of a vintage and not forcing the wine into a prefabricated corset. The fruit and floral components have a wonderful aftertaste. The "nuttiness" is not relevant at this stage.
