What the Genevrières offers here seems immensely lively and inviting - a spring meadow with herbs and blossoms, hints of hazelnut and walnut, Meyer lemons and not quite ripe vineyard peaches, some green pineapple and lots of stone. This also means that the wine lies on its lees for almost two years after spontaneous fermentation, in Stockinger's barrels and tonneaux.

Wine information

Rémi Jobards Meursault »Genevrières" comes from the 16.48 hectare Les Genevrières vineyard, of which Jobard owns 0.64 hectares. The vines in the stony but very mineral-rich soil are over 40 years old. Les Genevrières, together with Les Charmes, is considered the best site next to Les Perrières. All three sites could easily pass for Grand Cru, especially the upper parts of the sites, the so-called Dessus.

The Meursault »Genevrières" 1er Cru is vinified at Rémi Jobard with the same precision as all his wines. This also means that after spontaneous fermentation, the wine sits on its lees for almost two years, in Stockinger barrels and tonneaux.

Nose

Actually, Rémi Jobard's 2019 Meursault »Genevrières" 1er Cru the name »Charmes« in the title, so charming does it appear from the first moment. However, it quickly becomes obvious that it also carries a considerable amount of energy and freshness. It seems immensely lively and inviting, which the Genevrières here offers a spring meadow with herbs and flowers, hints of hazelnut and walnut, Meyer lemons and not quite ripe vineyard peaches, some green pineapple and lots of stone.

Palate

On the palate the Genevrières sinewy and very full of tension. The wine is still at the very beginning of its development. But what it is already showing is fun and makes for excellent drinking pleasure. Of course, this is not least due to Jobard's very precise and restrained use of wood, and the fact that he has captured all the fat that a wine needs. Meursault can have, is avoided. And so the wine offers a lot of substance and also a ripe fruit, but it always remains crisp. What is much more in the foreground here is the extract of the wine, its inner tension and density, the electrifying effect that the old vines produce from the poor stony soil, the saltiness and the grippy texture of this wine. 1er Cru. In addition, there is an elegant creaminess that will certainly increase with time, but already provides a fine noblesse.
