Origin
The interplay of climate and soil in the Danube valleys of Kamp, Krems and Traisen forms the basis for the character of the wines. Foothills of the Pannonian climate, named after the Roman province in eastern Austria and western Hungary, bring hot dry days to the area. Cool air currents from the higher Waldviertel mix and "spice up" the hot air, which can reach up to 38° C. The soils are also unique and ideal for winegrowing. On the one hand, there is Gföhler Gneiss, the primary rock from which the hills of the Kamptal were formed. On top of this is brown earth, sometimes with a limestone layer in between. On the other hand, there is loess, fly ash from the ice age, which has compacted into fertile soil. And finally, there are the clay soils that lie directly on the banks of the rivers. The grapes come from old vineyard sites around the town of Langenlois. The Chardonnay on lime-rich loess and the Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc on gneiss weathered soils ripen similarly and complement each other to create a complex, multi-layered wine.
Vinification
Selective hand harvest in 20 kg crates on 10 and 18 September 2019, partly 12 hours for Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay whole cluster pressing, spontaneous fermentation in 300 and 2500 l oak barrels, 2 to 4 weeks at max. 25°C in small barrels and at 22° C in large barrels. Pinot Gris fermented spontaneously on the skins for 2 weeks in new and used oak barrels, on full lees until February, on fine lees until bottling in August 2020.
Color
Light golden yellow with silvery reflections.
Nose
The Cuvée Manhart 2019 is still youthfully shy and elegant, it conveys fruit of melon, apple and orange, accompanied by fine notes of anise and lime blossom. The whole is framed in an intense minerality of mussel shells and sea breeze. Additional oxygen contact suits this cuvée perfectly!
Palate
Juicy and powerful, it glides over the tongue with Burgundian finesse, a creamy impression meets fine acidity and a grippy feel. The drinking flow is wonderful and makes you ask for another glass. The perfect food companion, especially with saltwater fish and shellfish!
Enjoy not too cold from the carafe from large glasses, after one to two days of previous opening it shows in full beauty.
