Wine Description for Lieben Aich DOC 2022 by Manincor

Colour & Appearance
Luminous lemon yellow with green reflections – a visual promise of freshness and vitality.
Nose
Here unfolds the full complexity of a great South Tyrolean Sauvignon Blanc. The nose shifts between opulent yellow fruit – mirabelle plum, peach, passion fruit and grilled pineapple – and a fascinating yeasty depth of fresh brioche and almond-topped plaited bread. Yet instead of sweet opulence, a mineral coolness dominates: limestone, cold smoke and stony precision. Herbal notes of marjoram, thyme, chervil and parsley lend ethereal freshness, whilst subtle hints of sencha tea, artichoke and fennel open additional layers of depth.
Palate
The attack builds with remarkable smoothness before a pronounced acidity structure cuts through and extends the finish. The balance between dense fruit and vibrant acidity is exemplary. The herbal aromas intensify on the palate and expand with each passing second – an aromatic journey from yellow fruit sweetness to mineral herbal spice.
Finish
Long and characterised by sencha tea and nettle. The minerality lingers, carried by a saline freshness that invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The Lieben Aich vineyard site in Terlan at 300 metres elevation offers ideal conditions: warm, airy climate meets sandy, well-drained soils over porphyry weathering. The westerly aspect and the perfect 2022 vintage with balanced rainfall, sunny days and cool nights created optimal physiological ripeness at a moderate yield of 39 hl/ha.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Sauvignon Blanc, completely destemmed with twelve-hour skin contact pressing. Spontaneous fermentation and ten months ageing on fine lees in large wooden casks impart complexity and texture without intrusive oak notes.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Pan-fried skate wing with beurre blanc, sashimi of tuna belly, warm artichoke hearts with lemon cream dip or steamed root vegetables harmonise perfectly with the wine’s mineral complexity and herbal spice.
Special Characteristics
Lieben Aich is year after year a reliable source for Sauvignon Blancs of extraordinary depth and length – a wine that impressively demonstrates South Tyrol’s potential for world-class white wines.
