Wine Description for Le Terroir Verzy Grand Cru Extra Brut L22/21 1500ml Magnum by Adrien Renoir
- Character
- Le Terroir is Adrien Renoir’s signature cuvée – an assemblage of equal parts Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Grand Cru village of Verzy, dry as Extra Brut. In the magnum format, the Champagne matures more slowly and evenly, bestowing additional depth and ageing potential – the festive format for a long table.
- Terroir & Origin
- All grapes come from Verzy, one of the 17 Grand Cru villages of Champagne, on the wooded northern edge of the Montagne de Reims. The subsoil is belemnite-rich chalk – cool, chalky, water-retentive. The vines are around forty years old. The designation L22/21 denotes the base: vintage 2022, supplemented by approximately one-fifth reserve wine from 2021, aged in large wooden cask.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 50 % Pinot Noir for body and red fruit, 50 % Chardonnay for freshness and length. Approximately one-fifth of the base wines ferments and matures in wooden barrel, the remainder in steel tank; around 20 % reserve wine adds depth. Maturation on the lees, dosed with only 0.8 g/l – Extra Brut. Adrien Renoir works organically (certified 2020), ferments spontaneously and disgorges without sulphur addition.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- In magnum format, the festive centrepiece of a multi-course menu: oysters and scallops to start, grilled turbot or Poulet de Bresse for the main course, a mature Comté to finish.
