Info
Kamptal DAC in this case stands for 100% Grüner Veltliner from the sites around Langenlois. 75% are on gneiss and 25% on loess and sandy, clayey sediments.
The age of the vines varies between 20 and 50 years.
The winery is a member of the "respekt-Bioydyn" group and complies with this quality guideline.
The yield is rated at 40-50hl per hectare.
2022 was contrary to most parts of Europe in the Kamptal. The year, which was considered hot and dry, had some of the highest rainfall. At the beginning of the harvest, rainfall amounts corresponding to other annual amounts were measured between April and September.
The Peronospera pressure was correspondingly high and repeatedly caused heavy losses. August was then very dry and brought ripening forward, before a rainy September made the start of the harvest difficult again.
The harvest for this wine lasted until mid-October. Whole grapes were pressed and some batches were also given some maceration time. 70% were fermented spontaneously in steel, 30% in large wooden barrels with 2,500l capacity. The wine was then aged on the fine lees in the steel for five months.

Nose
Dense and stony, it opens slowly in the glass. Its almondy and marzipan-like aromas are unusually intense. Only tentatively do stone fruits, especially apricot and mirabelle plum, slowly but surely make themselves felt in the glass. A very clear, cool tone reminds a little of wet stone and cold smoke. Nettle, savory and sage can be detected in the background. Over time, the fine herbal nose intensifies.
Palate
The 2022 Langenloiser Grüner Veltliner plays its trump cards right from the start. It is dense and has a lot of pressure. It pushes forward on the palate. Its balance of some melting, plenty of fruit and a taut framework of phenols and acidity is optimal. The last two attributes have an enormous impact on the wine. Animating and captivating. It stimulates the flow of saliva enormously and ensures - at least for me - that glasses are emptied quickly.
