Info about the situation
In Nackenheim, the mighty clay slate bank of the Rote Hang pushes its way to the surface before disappearing underground again a few kilometres further south near Nierstein. In the meantime, the Kühling Gillot winery owns plots in all the exciting locations of the Rote Hang and, after extensive replanting, the vines in Nackenheim in particular have reached the right age for a great wine.
Vinification info
The wine was matured in large old barrels with long yeast storage.
Color
Bright, radiant golden yellow.
Nose
On the nose, the 2020 Nackenheimer Riesling VDP.Erste Lage shows noble restraint. Smoky notes, dried meadow herbs and mineral depth initially conceal its fruity character. After prolonged contact with oxygen, quince, apple peel and orange zest emerge, and a hint of juniper and tarragon also appear in the complex aroma. You have to work a little for this wine, get involved with it - or rather, it has to get involved with us.
Palate
On the tongue, it is its spiciness, its coolness and again its noblesse that makes it stand out. The acidity is very nicely buffered, a fine tannin makes it once again a very self-contained wine that loves the combination with purist cuisine.
Be sure to ventilate!
