Out of stock

The Riesling shows itself largely closed at first, but with air and warmth, the Großes Gewächs opens up and initially exudes slightly tart notes of dried herbs, lemon verbena, apple and apple peel, but also of nut and oyster shells. This Kastanienbusch is a powerful wine, it is long and deep, has enormous substance and is definitely one of the Rieslings of the year.

Wine information

West of the village of Birkweiler, the site »Kastanienbusch" is located at the edge of a valley basin, where it is protected from the cool winds coming from the Palatinate Forest. At 320 meters above sea level, the site, which is characterized by the ferruginous so-called Oberrotliegenden, is the highest GG site in the Palatinate. The vineyard of loose granite, slate and melaphyra deposits has a slope of 30 to 35 %. The plots of Rebholz belong to the original plot of the site »Kastanienbusch". The wine was vinified after destemming and a maceration period of about 24 hours. After pre-clarification and natural sedimentation, the wine was fermented in stainless steel and aged on the fine lees for six months.

Nose

Similar to Christmann's Idig is also used for Rebholz' Chestnut Bush 2018 quickly clear that one has here a great wine in the glass. The Riesling shows itself at first largely closed, but with air and warmth opens the Great Growth and exudes at first slightly tart notes of dried herbs, lemon verbena, apple and apple peel, but also of nut and oyster shells. Only a little later one notices peach, some cassis and liquorice.

Mouth

On the palate the Chestnut Bush At first compact and slightly phenolic. However, the peels of apples, lemons including abrasion and also nectarines, yellow apples and grapefruits are found again. The wine builds up immense pressure on the palate. There is a lot of tension and a lot of minerality from the Rotliegende, from the iron-rich soil, and also a lot of warmth. This Chestnut Bush is a powerful wine, it is long and deep, has enormous substance and is definitely one of the Rieslings of the year.
