The Integer reflects a holistic approach to respecting the terroir, de Bartoli limits any mechanical, physical or chemical intervention. Without
fertiliser or weedkiller and only minimal amounts of sulphur and copper, the grapes for this exceptional Grillo grow until they are finally harvested by hand and selected several times. They are then pressed and, after a certain period of maceration, the must begins to ferment spontaneously in used barrels and amphorae, where it also undergoes malolactic fermentation. After ten months on the fine lees, the Integer is bottled unfiltered, unfined and unsulphured.
Color
Old gold with orange reflections and slight cloudiness.
Nose
The 2020 Integer Grillo from Marco de Bartoli is the ideal introduction to the wonderful world of decent orange wine. Pure and clear, it smells both of Grillo, which condenses in the omnipresent citrus note from lemon to green mandarin to candied orange. These impressions are underpinned by dried aromas of orange peel and mild spices, delicately oxidative notes as well as freshly brewed Darjeeling. Ethereal, multi-layered and with enormous length, it is the perfect sparring partner for aroma-rich cuisine with its super-animating nature.
Mouth
On the palate, the Integer opens up to the next level, adding the haptic component to the experience with a neat sweep of ripe, polished and highly animating tannins. The impressions of vigorously pulled Darjeeling with its tightly woven tannins and distinctive citrus note are also reflected on the palate, where it slowly builds sublime pressure that resembles a gentle yet insistent pulsation. Dried fruit, mild spices, stimulating bitterness and its distinctive saline note call for spirited cuisine to this solitary wine.
