Wine Description for Pet Nat Brut 2023 by Hajszan Neumann
- Colour & Appearance
- Slightly hazy straw yellow with luminous green reflections – authentic and unfiltered, as befits a true Pétillant Naturel. The coarse-bubbled carbonation bears witness to traditional bottle fermentation.
- Nose
- Playful and youthful, this Pet Nat presents itself with a kaleidoscopic aromatic spectrum. Mirabelle plum, lemon and peach meet pear, passion fruit and lychee – a colourful and aromatic interplay from yellow to green. Lemon balm, lemon thyme and mint lend invigorating freshness, whilst yeasty notes recall freshly stirred dough and make the artisanal craftsmanship transparent.
- Palate
- The vitalising, yet never obtrusive carbonation guides the wine in a straightforward manner, initially shedding its youthful baby fat. Then a slightly melting yeast texture builds up, which quickly gives way again to fruity aromatics. An uncomplicated, refreshing sip that motivates rather than demands – generous and accessible with its 11.5% alcohol.
- Finish
- Lively and animated, with lingering freshness and a hint of yeast that resonates subtly.
- Terroir & Origin
- The vines thrive on Vienna’s Nussberg on weathered shell limestone with a high clay content. Neuburger comes from the Riede Muckentahl, Müller-Thurgau from the Riede Weisleiten. The 2023 vintage was characterised by a long winter, warm spring and changeable summer – harvesting began in early September and ended as early as 12 October with perfectly ripe grapes.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- An unconventional cuvée of Neuburger, Müller-Thurgau and Muskateller. After three hours of skin contact, the pre-clarified must undergoes spontaneous fermentation in a steel tank and is bottled towards the end of fermentation – classic Méthode Ancestrale. After six months on the lees, riddling and disgorging follow. The dosage is the winery’s Natural Muskateller 2023.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Sourdough bread open sandwich with cream cheese, radishes and chives, smoked eel on scrambled eggs and pumpernickel or celeriac carpaccio with herb oil, walnuts and shaved horseradish – this Pet Nat loves uncomplicated, fresh cuisine.
- Special Features
- An honest, artisanally produced Pet Nat from Vienna that prioritises drinking pleasure over complexity – exactly as it should be.
