Color

Dark ruby red in colour with a violet rim and opaque core, the wine presents itself clearly and brilliantly in the glass.

Nose

The nose announces itself smokily, as if the red fruit jelly made of dark berries for dessert is already standing next to the charcoal grill on which the dry-aged flank steak is sizzling.

Sublime, gentle and yet determined.

The first nose of the Gran Reserva Tempranillo from the Ribera del Duero reminds of blackberries and blueberries, stewed cherries and fresh cranberries. The dark fruit is softly embedded by profound spices of Assam tea and barbecue sauce, as well as Szechuan pepper and nutmeg. Delightfully contrasting ethereal aromas flash up like menthol and literally clear the nose to perceive the wine in full spectrum.

Palate

Juicy yet controlled by robust power, the 2012 Gran Callejo is a full-bodied, thick-skinned representative of its guild. Something to tackle! Chubby, yet figure-hugging curvy and defined, yet far from fat and oversaturated.

The lascivious Gran Reserva lives up to its title. Its sophisticatedly soft, yet grippy tannin lingers, giving the dark berry fruit emphasis and length. Unobtrusive yet vitalizing acidity ensures that its density does not turn into heaviness and brings the wine into contented, inner balance.

Food recommendations from Peter Müller

  • Potato focaccia with porcini mushroom pesto, rocket and black olives
  • Grilled warm octopus salad with chorizo, roasted chanterelles and rosemary potatoes
  • Tournedos Rossini
