Nose
Just by looking at the alcohol content on the label, it's clear that this Grand Cru is not at all the classic, even baroque style of Alsatian Gewurztraminer. Here it is something lighter, leaner than one is used to. And yes, that's exactly what it is. The Furstentum appears in the fragrance like the ideal image of a Gewürztraminer with its opulent scent of nutmeg and lychee, orange and orange zest, apricot and papaya. But there are also bright citrus notes that convey the freshness and clarity present, as well as ginger, cool wet stone and light tobacco.
Palate
On the palate, the full extent of this skillfully vinified balance of depth and opulence on the one hand and freshness and bright juiciness on the other is revealed. The acid structure of this wine is extremely impressive and builds up an astonishing amount of pressure on the palate. The Furstentum oscillates between sweetness and acidity, is wonderfully juicy, spicy and at the same time blessed with a flattering silky texture. In addition to the fruit already mentioned in the aroma, a hint of cinnamon and biscuit, almond and candied orange peel join in here and round off a coherent, complex taste picture that lingers on the tongue for minutes. This is fantastic.
