Nose
One step after generous comes charitable. And this is how the 2015 Clos Windsbuhl Gewurztraminer from Domaine Zind Humbrecht shows itself in the nose. Its fragrance rises from the glass like fresh honey slowly dripping from the honeycomb orange blossom, candied fruit, ooolong tea, lychees and mallow as well as rose petals, but also spicy notes of mace and pickled ginger. In all its opulence it shows itself disciplined without unexpected solos of single flavours - an exemplary interplay.
Mouth
Dense, viscous and juicy, it flows over the taster's tongue. With a silky sheen and chalky draw, it is rich without ever drifting into opulence or exuberance. The Gewürztraminer seeks out the limestone that is responsible for its polished stature. Its fine acidic nerve provides vibration, the fruit, always aromatically dominant, is merely draped in velvet-lined baskets by the residual sweetness. Still life.
