Wine information
The Riegelberg is a wine characterised by a unique terroir. The vines grow on red granite, in a very steep vineyard that is densely planted and has a very thin topsoil. After just a few centimetres, you come across pure rock. The vines are old and deeply rooted.
Information on the expansion
The 50% wine was made from whole bunches. The grapes were briefly crushed by foot in small wooden vats and fermented on the skins for around three weeks. It was then pressed on an old basket press. The wine was drawn off via the broquereau using gravity pressure. Maturation took place exclusively in used wooden barrels, mainly barriques and pièces. No yeasts, enzymes, fining or filtration were used. Depending on the vintage, a maximum of 30 mg sulphur was added.
Color
Muted garnet red with violet reflections.
Nose
The aromas that emanate from the glass are deep and dark. They combine blackberries, blueberries, rowan berries and sloes with notes of forest floor, tree bark, truffles and various floral scents reminiscent of violets, ivy and wild roses. This wine is a true work of art that is still in the early stages of its development. It is mystical, interwoven and profound.
Palate
On the palate, the 2020 Riegelberg has a subtle fruit sweetness, a juicy flavour, invigorating acidity and a firm but fine-grained tannin structure. It still has a lot up its sleeve and will develop into a great wine with further maturation. It goes particularly well with intense dishes with a rustic flavour.
Decant and enjoy slightly chilled from Burgundy glasses.
