Wine profile
Olivier Humbrecht
Nestled in the lower reaches of the secluded Heimbourg single vineyard, this Riesling is created on significantly steep terrain. The top layer of soil, characterised by siliceous limestone marl, is only the precursor to the Oligocene parent rock, rich in limestone, which the vines quickly reach. Although this soil condition demands greater effort from the vines, it also ensures a remarkable vitality of the grapes, albeit in smaller quantities. The Heimbourg single vineyard is one of the earliest harvests in Alsace, but thanks to the cool winds in the valley and the equally cool soil, the wines are impressively fresh.

Production details
Thanks to changing climatic conditions, especially drier summers, the control of noble rot is becoming increasingly flexible, which is reflected in a drier and drier profile of the wines over the years. The fermentation process of this wine was comparatively uncomplicated, with wild yeasts leaving no residual sugar in this edition.

Colour shade
Bright golden yellow.

Flavours
The 2019 Riesling Heimbourg develops its full power and uniqueness only after sufficient aeration. An aromatic bouquet of oranges, candied lemon peel, fresh figs, aniseed, angelica root and elderflower, underpinned by subtle flint and wood smoke notes, flows from the glass. Over time, this Riesling will reveal earthy nuances and subtle truffle notes.

Taste
On the palate, this noble drop unfolds an aristocratic elegance paired with astonishing appeal, slightly sweet fruit notes and a powerful, spicy structure. The emphasis on its acidity in 2019 gives it a tangy freshness, while the fine tannin elevates it to an impressive monument, marked by a salty finish and phenomenal length.
For those who wish to discover its flavour now, it is advisable to decant the wine at least one day before and serve it in large Burgundy glasses at a temperature that is not too cold.

Recommended dishes
Roasted carpaccio of porcini mushrooms with walnut oil, lemon juice and tarragon, grilled langoustine on a slate plate with tomato concassée and langoustine sauce or roasted chicken with coriander, apple and fresh almonds.
