About the wine
This exquisite drop is a masterful fusion of Grenache and Carignan - whereby it is not the classic Grenache rouge that sets the tone, but primarily the Lledoner Pelut variety. The grapes, harvested from aged vines in the slate soil around Calce in Roussillon, were fermented and matured whole - partly in cement, partly in neutral wood and clay. No unnecessary additives were used.
Colour scheme
A deep, almost mysterious purple characterises this wine.
Bouquet
The 2021 Cuvée Romanissa from Domaine Matassa presents itself surprisingly fresh on the nose, with juicy notes of blackberry, sloe and wild raspberry, which elegantly combine with aromas of undergrowth, rosemary, thyme and fruit tea. A hint of wood smoke and liquorice rounds off the finely layered aroma profile.
Taste experience
Despite an alcoholic lightness of just 11.5 vol%, this excellent red provides a refreshingly invigorating tingle on the tongue, supported by a delightful acidity and velvety tannins. Each sip creates a longing for the next - a subtle yet effective accompaniment to any meal, subtly underscoring yet never overpowering.
Indulgence note
Its character is at its best in large glasses and slightly chilled.
