Wine description for Creutz Silvaner, own-rooted 2024 from Luckert – Zehnthof

Character
The Creutz Silvaner from Luckert-Zehnthof is an authentic homage to Franconian wine culture and represents the increasingly rare tradition of own-rooted vines. These ungrafted stocks – survivors of the phylloxera catastrophe – lend the wine a special depth and minerality. With 13% alcohol, the 2024 vintage presents itself as a powerful, dry Silvaner with clear structure and the characteristic Franconian backbone.
Terroir & Origin
The Creutz vineyard site belongs to the historic wine regions of Sulzfeld in the Franconian Main Triangle. The Luckert-Zehnthof estate cultivates own-rooted Silvaner stocks here that are rooted directly in shell limestone soil – that very terroir which gives Franconian wines their distinctive saline minerality. The old, ungrafted vines develop more intensive root systems and extract more complex aromas from the calcareous subsoil. The 2024 vintage benefited from increasingly warmer conditions in Franconia, which allow the Silvaner additional ripeness.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Silvaner is Franconia’s signature grape variety par excellence – a variety that finds its noblest expression here. Unlike in other regions, Franconian Silvaner develops a remarkable spiciness and earthiness, combined with herbal notes and subtle fruit. The own-rooted vines bring additional complexity and phenolic structure. Luckert-Zehnthof practises a traditionally-crafted approach that places terroir characteristics centre stage and gives the wine time to develop.
Food Pairing Recommendations
This powerful Silvaner calls for hearty Franconian cuisine: Schäufele with dumplings, onion cake or roast pork. The saline minerality harmonises excellently with freshwater fish such as carp or pike-perch. The wine also shows its versatility with asparagus with hollandaise sauce, goat’s cheese or mushroom dishes. The structure also carries Asian cuisine with spicy components.
