Color
In light dark purple with a violet core and garnet red rim, the wine appears clear and shiny in the glass.
Nose
In the manner of a true gentleman, the fragrance of this wine reveals itself slowly, carefully and unobtrusively. Wild strawberry, red currant and red gooseberry make their way through a thicket of young spruce shoots with their resinous-ethereal scent, moss and dry autumn leaves. The path leads directly to where the pepper grows. A radiant Côte de Nuits that, as expected, manages the balancing act between subtlety and a touch of rough-and-tumble.
Palate
The quiet spectacle of the tug-of-war also takes place on the palate. On the one hand delicate, elegant and silky, on the other hand discreetly coarse-grained in its tannin and led by pronounced spice, the 2016 Côte de Nuits "Aux Montagnes" from Francois de Nicolay's farm has an immense tension. Its mature tannins coupled with long-lasting acidity give it staying power and guarantee a full life. However, this wine can be quickly doomed by the fact that it is already enjoyable to drink in its youth.
