Wine information
As early as 1456, the "Mersbin" was listed in the interest book of the monks of the monastery of Weißenburg in Alsace as the origin of excellent wines. Even today, this vineyard is still considered the best site in Gimmeldingen. Until 2014, we used the name Mandelgarten, but from the 2015 vintage onwards, we returned to the historical name of the Meerspinne vineyard. It is located on a foothill that slopes south-east towards the Rhine. Situated at the entrance to the Gimmeldinger Valley, the microclimate is characterised by large day-night differences, which are caused by the nocturnal flow of cold air from the Palatinate Forest and ensure fine acidity and freshness. The subsoil of the hill consists of solid limestone. Over the centuries, a mixture of eroded red sandstone rubble and calcareous loess has been deposited on this limestone ridge.

Light golden yellow with delicate green reflections
Nose
The 2022 Meerspinne Riesling Grosse Lage displays cool finesse and multi-layered fruit of citrus, quince, apple and orange peel. All framed in a compact and concise minerality. At this stage, decanting into a carafe will do it good, revealing herbal flavours and a hint of ginger and coriander alongside the cool, stony notes.
Palate
Delicate and at the same time dense, it runs over the palate, tickling it with a salty note and invigorating acidity. Its subtle tart note and moderate alcohol content of 12 vol% make it a wine to savour, a wine that loves fish and shellfish dishes just as much as salty and spicy vegetable variations.
If you want to savour it in its youthful stage, you should definitely decant it and serve it not too cold in a sufficiently large glass.
