Wine Description for Burgenlandrot 2023 by Meinklang

Colour & Appearance
Muted violet-red with mauve reflections – youthful and lively in the glass.
Nose
This wine is an aromatic kaleidoscope of Burgenland biodiversity. Sloe, mulberries and lingonberries meet a Mediterranean herb bouquet of rosemary, thyme and juniper. Between them shimmer wild flowers, fruit tea and the mineral note of pencil shavings. Freshly ground pepper and a delicate green bell pepper note underscore the savoury, primal character – pure, unadorned freshness.
Palate
Juicy and light-footed at just 12% alcohol, the Burgenlandrot 2023 presents itself as the perfect summer wine. The tannins are refined and elegant, the acidity invigorating without being intrusive. A delicate bitterness and fresh herbal notes characterise the drinking experience. This is a red wine that demands to be served chilled – refreshing, uncomplicated and remarkably drinkable.
Finish
Medium length with lingering fruitiness and a hint of herbal spice that invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
From the Neusiedl Lake in Burgenland, where the Pannonian climate with hot days and cool nights delivers intense aromatics at moderate alcohol levels. Meinklang’s biodynamic philosophy allows the terroir to speak unadulterated.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A classic Burgenland cuvée of Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt and St. Laurent. The biodynamic production eschews oenological tricks – the result is authentic, lively and full of personality.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Chilled at 14-16°C a dream with grilled vegetables, ratatouille, herb focaccia, Mediterranean antipasti or spicy lentil stews. Also an excellent choice with rocket pizza or light pasta dishes with plenty of herbs.
Special Features
An uncomplicated, yet by no means simple everyday wine from one of Austria’s biodynamic pioneers. The moderate alcohol content makes it the ideal companion for long summer evenings – you can be sure there won’t be just one bottle!
